Be productive, don’t just be busy

There’s a fundamental difference between being productive and being busy. You can figure out a 100 things to do to keep yourself busy, but that does not mean you’re being productive. 

 A big difference between successful people and others is that they spend their time wisely. They don’t just keep themselves busy, but they aim to be as productive as they can. 

 You can be busy all day and yet not get any work done. 1 hour of productive time will do more good than an unproductive busy day. So, spend your time wisely. Stop being just busy, start being productive.  

Work smarter, not just harder 

The top 1% in our world did not just get to the top through work hard. They made smart choices. In fact, it was a combination of smart work and hard labor. 

 A lot of people put in useless hard work in their life, but hardly make it far enough. Others, put less effort but make it just as far, if not further. This is due to their methodology of work. If you work smarter, you’ll do better than someone who’s just working harder. 

So, what does it mean to work smarter? 

For example, if both of you are given a task, and there is a conventional way of doing it, generally an average human being would choose to do it the conventional way. On the other hand, if you can figure out a smarter way of doing it, that involves less resources, you’ll be ahead of the curve. 

Read a lot, knowledge is power

Many successful people such as Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk & Bill Gates emphasize this point. They all have one thing in common – they read a lot. They gain a lot of knowledge through reading that puts them ahead of those who know less. 

 People tend to waste a lot of time doing gibberish, but hardly ever pick up a book to read. But reading can be a great habit. Books will offer you a great deal of knowledge, and knowledge is power. 

And it just doesn’t have to be books, you can be reading articles online, like the one you are reading now and they’re all providing you knowledge. 

Communicate & Socialize, with the right people 

Networking is important, especially if you’re doing business. Who you know matters a lot because your connections will provide you opportunities. If you know the right people, things will be much easier for you. 

 Who you choose to socialize with also has a greater impact on you as a human being. You are the 5 people you hang out with the most. So, make sure you surround yourself with the right people who maintain the right attitude. Otherwise, you’ll end up being influenced in the wrong ways. 

Believe in yourself

Last but perhaps the most important point. You have to believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, nothing is possible. Nobody is born knowing they will succeed. You have to believe that you can and go forth. 

 Remember, the majority of wildly successful people you see today were not born rich. They made their way to the top. They had the faith in themselves. 

 So, if you cannot motivate yourself, nobody else can. So have faith in yourself and be confident.
